Sani Pass > Thabana Ntlenyana, Lesotho.
Not for the faint-hearted, this unique 3 day, 2 night experience will see you hiking the remote area around Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest peak in Southern Africa, and spending one night as the shepherds do, in a “motibo” (a small shelter.)

08:00 Depart from Underberg which is a small farming town est. In 1917 and settled at the foot of the Inhlokoma mountain. Drive through Himeville village towards the Sani Pass Boarder control, en-rout we stop for photos and to enjoy the magical mountains and landscape. Your qualified guide will also give a brief commentary on the mountains, fauna and flora as well as the birds.
09:00 We check out at the South African boarder control and also have a welcomed toilet break. We then ascend the Sani Pass which is 8km’s long. We tackle the famous hair pin bends of the Sani Pass thereafter we arrive in the Mountain Kingdom.
10:30 We stamp into Lesotho at 2873m above sea level, we then have a brief stop at the highest pub in Africa 2874m above sea level for some refreshments.
11:15 Drive to 3240m above sea level which is the top of black mountain pass. From there we descend towards Mokhotlong.
12:15 We have a picnic lunch.
After lunch we arrive at our destination, where we will do a village tour (very special and exclusive).
DINNER SERVED AT 18:00
06:30 We hike from the village to where you will overnight.
We sleep in a real Motibo which is where the shepherds spend their nights during their stay in the mountains, giving you a truly unique and authentic experience.
These “Motibo” are small temporary huts, usually shared but two or three young shepherds, and you will see them dotted across the landscape.
06:30 We start our hike to the awe-inspiring Thabana Ntlenyana peak at 3482m above sea level, which is the highest peak in Southern Africa.
From there you then hike down to the highest pub in Africa at the Lesotho border post where you will meet your driver guide, then drive down the Sani Pass back to Underberg.
